i dont think budddism was a person it was just a religion created by a person. I belive that this person who created this religion believed that it would help others lead their life into a more caring and justified way.
Both religions are alive and kicking still.

Buddhism wasn't used but in the Zhou dynasty, there were lots of wars. When Buddhism spread to China, if gave the Chinese hope because of reincarnation. That they will be alive again and could make better decisions on the next life. This was really needed to China in that time.

Yes, there are at least a quarter billion practicing Buddhists in the world. Though Buddhism does not evangelize the way Christianity does throughout the west, it is alive and well. One could even argue that Buddhism can never really die out. It is the religion of thought and reflection, not faith and dogma. As long as there are free thinking individuals there will always be Buddhists, even if they don't call themselves that.
