William Copp was a shoemaker and the founder and builder of Copp's Hill Burying Ground in the North End of Boston.
Scholars are still debating this. While some sources say she was buried at Boston's Granary Burying Ground, near where her former owner John Wheatley was buried, and others say she was buried in Copps Hill Buying Ground, the Boston Women's History Trail and several other Boston historical sites note that she died in poverty and was buried in an unmarked grave somewhere in Boston.
