Corcyra was a colony of Corinth. Corinth expected its daughter city to give due deference to it as was the custom. A large faction in Corcyra did not see it that way, and the dispute was encouraged by Athenian support of Corcyra, in which a Corinthian enforement expedition was defeate. The factions in Corcyra then fell into fighting each other in a bloody and merciless civil war.

It was a colony of Corinth, and in the 5th Century BCE was the scene of bitter internal civil war and also one initiating cause of the Peloponnesian war when Athens intervened on one side of the civil war and Corinth, an ally of Sparta, intervened on the other.

in the batlle of syvota between Corcyra and Corith the corcyraians won the frist batlle (80 triremes against 75).....At the end of the second batlle both sides declared victory.....the corinthian side for making the corcyraians retreat and the corcyran side for avoiding a corinthian occupation.....so basicaly corinth won one of the batlles but Corcyra won the war.......
