ECMAScript was created in 1997-06.
ECMAScript is a programming language adopted by the European Computer Manufacturer's Association as a standard for performing computations in Web applications. The ECMAScript language includes structured, dynamic, functional, and prototype-based features.
Client-Side- JavaScript, ECMAScript Server-Side- PHP
ECMAScript 5 is the latest finished standardisation, but not usable aslong as there are internet explorer browsers out there.
JScript is the Microsoft implementation of the ECMAScript scripting programming language specification. JavaScript is used on web pages for scripting, although it can be and is also used in other embedding scenarios.
JavaScript language is officially standardized as ECMAScript (ECMA-262) by European Computer Manufacturers Association (ECMA) International. it is internationally oriented body embraced by Microsoft and holding the standards for C#, CLI and Open XML. Microsoft's own version of JavaScript is JScript and it is mostly compatible with ECMAScript v.3. The intersection between these three variations of the same language is at: # JavaScript 1.5 (without DOM) # JScript as supported by IE6 (still the most widely used browser) # ECMAScript ver. 3 The largest difference between JavaScript and JScript is actually interpreter/runtime related and not language specific. IE6 was known for some notorious performance issues related to its non-generational garbage collector when operating on large object trees.
JavaScript is LiveScript. It was renamed to gain popularity. The JavaScript name was rejected by then Sun Microsystems who owned the Java trademark. Now the official name is ECMAScript, while it is still commonly referred to as JavaScript. In Internet Explorer it is called JScript. Different names, same language.
A statement in a programming language is a standalone unit of code. In JavaScript, statements generally end with a semicolon or a closing bracket.Examples:// variable statementvar x = 5;// if statementif (x == 0) {...}The ECMAScript language specification lists all the different types of statements permitted in JavaScript. JavaScript started, because Netscape wanted to add a glue language for web designers to its web browser in 1995. Java made it to their web browser a little earlier and quickly gained popularity, so they changed JavaScript's name from the initial LiveScript to the name it has today.
