Handball originated from different places. For example, there is evidence that it originates from Ancient Egypt and Meso-America. However, modern handball is thought to have originated from Scotland (1427).
Men first played handball at the 1936 Games in Berlin. The event was then removed from the Olympics until the 1972 Games in Munich and has been competed in every Olympics since. Women first played handball at the 1976 Games in Montreal and the event has been competed in every Olympics since.
It was the ancestor of the modern handball what is played in sports halls. Field handball was played on a sports field, like football (soccer). It was olympic in 1936. But with the time hall handball got more and more popular and in 1972 this type of handball got olympic. In 1966 was the last world chamionship in field handball.
Serbian First League of Handball was created in 1992.
Handball was always named only "Handball". Just the English speaking hemisphere added "Team" to distinguish it from the other handball game played by just 2 persons.
