The Anglican Church was created after Henry VIII separated himself from the Roman Church when they refused to grant him a divorce with his first wife, Catherine of Argon. The Parliament passed documents that made the king the head of the Church. His daughter Queen Elizabeth I modified the Church further after her half-sister Queen Mary had tried to revert back to Catholicism. She passed the 39 articles which stated some of the beliefs of the Church.
