Tirpitz class.
The Tirpitz, a German battleship during World War II, was sunk in Tromsø Fjord, Norway. It was targeted by Allied forces and ultimately sunk on November 12, 1944, by a series of bombs dropped by British bombers. The sinking of the Tirpitz marked a significant event in naval warfare, as it eliminated a major threat to Allied convoys in the Arctic.
USS Missouri or USS South Dakota This is debated, the best U.S. Battleships were the USS Missouri or USS South Dakota, however the German ships Bismark and Tirpitz were very advanced technologically. Compared to American and British ships, politics aside, ship for ship the Tirpitz was the best battleship in WW2, it never even finished its preliminary trials and held the entire Allied Navy out of the North Sea from 1939 until 1944, when it was finally sank. The technology develloped from the Tirpitz and its innovative features make it the arguably the best Battleship of WW2.
It was the BISMARCK battleship, which sank Britain's HOOD in 1941 and was sunk itself a few days later in the Atlantic Ocean close to Brest, France. NO it wasn't. It was the Tirpitz which hid in a Norwegian fjord and was bombed and sunk Tirpitz was 2 metres longer overall and 1200 tons heavier (basic displacement) Tirpitz never fought and so most people think the Bismarck was larger, it was only a similar ship. The Bismarck and Tirpitz were sisterships, but the Tirpitz was a bit larger. Bismarck inflicted severe damage on the British battleship Prince of Wales at the Battle of Denmark Strait, but it was probably the German heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen which sank the British battle cruiser Hood. The Tirpitz did venture into the Atlantic, but without the success of other German warships.
The captain of the German battleship Bismarck was Ernst Lindemann.
German battleship Gneisenau ended on 1942-07-01.
