Plutonium was discovered by Glenn T. Seaborg, Edwin M. McMillan, Joseph W. Kennedy and Arthur C. Wahl at the Berkeley Laboratory of the University of California (United States) after the bombardment of uranium with deuterons, in 1940. Now plutonium is obtained in the nuclear reactors.
Plutonium is also in traces in uranium minerals.
Element 106 is named seaborgium. Seaborg was instrumental in the discovery of plutonium and worked on the Manhattan Project.

Glenn Seaborg and the collaborators named this element plutonium in 1942.

The name of plutonium is derived from the name of the planet Pluto; the chemical symbol Pu for plutonium was proposed by Glenn Seaborg in 1940.
Seaborg actually produced more than two. He produced Plutonium (Pu), Americium (Am), Curium (Cm), Berkelium (Bk) and Califormium) (Cf).
