The Battle of Potemkin
The scene of the Odessa Steps (the Primorsky Stairs in Odessa) involves the massacre of civilian demonstrators by troops of the Tzar, which did not actually take place. The famous steps were renamed by the Soviets as "the Potemkin Stairs" but changed back to their earlier name after the Ukraine became autonomous again after the breakup of the USSR.
The 1977 film Telefon starred Charles Bronson as Major Grigori Borzov and Lee Remick as Barbara. The supporting cast included Donald Pleasance, Tyne Daly and Alan Badel.
