Adolf Hitler started the Second World War on September 1, 1939 by invading Poland. But this did not get the United States involved. The U.S. did not join the war until after the Japanese bombed the US Naval Forces at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7, 1941. Although the US was not fighting a "hot war" with Germany until after December 7th, It did actively support the Allied Forces in the European Theater of the War. Franklin Roosevelt's Lend Lease Act was pivotal to Britain's fight against Nazi Germany by supplying much needed military planes and war materiel in exchange for over seas bases that Great Britain leased back to the United States. World War II lasted six long years and led to over 50 million deaths, including the near extermination of the Jewish people from the European continent. VE Day (or "Victory in Europe Day") came on May 8, 1945. Really, the question should be the other way round - 'When did the USA fight Nazi Germany?' since Hitler did not chose to fight Germany, rather the USA entered the war because of Pearl Harbour, and fought Japan and Germany. The question can be asked both ways. I guess it just depends on one's point of view. As I remember, Adolf Hitler did declare war against the United States.

Why did Adolf Hitler fight for the cause they believed in and how did they fight for their cause?

There were multiple things that Adolf Hitler believed in and fought for. If you are talking about the war, then Adolf Hitler believed in German expansion to "purify" Europe. He did this through blitzkrieg or lightning war, where the Germans invaded countries with a striking amount of manpower and war-power. Adolf Hitler didn't fight for the German cause, Germany fought for Adolf Hitler's cause.
