There are 10 events in total: combined driving, dressage, endurance riding, eventing, paraequestrianism, reining, show jumping, and vaulting. The final two are horseball and tent pegging, but these have their own independent championships.

There are two versions of the heptathlon. The IAAF World Combined Events Challenge determines a yearly women's heptathlon champion.
