Republicans controlled Illinois for the 25 years prior to the election of now-indicted Governor Rod Blagojevich. Dan Walker, serving 1973-77, was the last time the Democrats had the governor's mansion. Dan Walker went to prison for involvement in a savings and loan scandal that he was involved with after leaving politics.

Blagojevich may become the fourth governor to go to prison in the last 40 years. Republican governor Ryan is now in prison. Besides Walker, Republican governor George Ryan is currently serving time for corruption while in office. Former Governor Otto Kerner (1961-670 also went to prison. We're used to that in Illinois.
