Tenrikyo was founded on October 26, 1838 (lunar calendar) when Miki Nakayama's (aka Oyasama) husband Zenbei complied with the wishes of God to receive Miki as a "Shrine of God." God first spoke through Miki during an "incantation" that began on 10/23 that was led by Ichibei Nakano, a renown shaman in northern Yamato Province (presently Nara Prefecture) who was praying on the behalf of members of the Nakayama family.
