The Trevor project was founded by James Lecesne, Peggy Rajski, and Randy Stone who are respectively the writer, director, and producer of a 1994 film called Trevor. The film features a gay thirteen year old boy who, upon being rejected by his friends for being gay, attempts to commit suicide. When the Academy Award-winning film was set to air on HBO, Lecesne, Rajski, and Stone realized that their audience might in fact include teenagers facing the kind of situation portrayed in the movie. When they discovered that there was no resource for youth facing such situations, they established The Trevor Project.
