James T. Vaughn Correctional Center was created in 1971.
It is the James T Vaughn Correctional Center (JTVCC) which is a Level 5 prison locate in Smyrna Delaware housing about 2,470 inmates. It is named for former State Senator James T. Vaughn who was a Marine, a state police officer, the Chief of Police in Smyrna. Chief of the State Corrections Commission and finally his 27 year career in the State Senate. He died two week after resigning from the Senate of cancer.
