La marseillaise was accepted as the National Anthem for France on the July the 14th, 1795. It was composed and written by Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle on April the 25th, 1792. It's original name was Chant de guerre pour l'Armée du Rhin" meaning War Song for the Army of the Rhine. Hope that helps
