Gary P. Nunn's "London Homesick Blues" becomes the show's theme song. 1978: Season three of Austin City Limits premieres on PBS. 1979: Season four of Austin City Limits premieres on PBS, and Terry Lickona joins the show as producer. 1980: Season five of Austin City Limits premieres on PBS, and Scott Newton joins the show as still photographer and Allan Muir as director. 1981: Austin City Limits sixth broadcast season kicks off on PBS. 1982: Season seven of Austin City Limits premieres on PBS, and Austin City Limits introduces a new opening theme song composed by John Mills, it was Allan Muir's final season as director. 1983: Season eight of Austin City Limits premieres on PBS, and Gary Menotti joins the show as director, who succeeds Allan Muir. 1984: Season nine of Austin City Limits kicks off on PBS, and Budweiser begins sponsorship. 1985: ACL's tenth broadcast season kicks off on PBS. 1986: Season eleven of Austin City Limits premieres on PBS. 1987: ACL's twelfth broadcast season kicks off on PBS, this was the final season where Austin City Limits was produced by the Southwest Texas Public Broadcasting Council. 1988: Season thirteen of Austin City Limits premieres on PBS, and The Capital of Texas Public Telecommunications Council takes over production. 1989: ACL's fourteenth broadcast season kicks off on PBS. 1990: ACL's fifteenth anniversary season kicks off on PBS, and Budweiser stops underwriting the show. 1991: Season sixteen of Austin City Limits premieres on PBS. 1992: ACL's seventeenth broadcast season kicks off on PBS. 1993: Season eighteen of Austin City Limits premieres on PBS. 1994: ACL's nineteenth broadcast season kicks off on PBS. 1995: ACL's twentieth anniversary season kicks off on PBS. 1996: Season twenty-one of Austin City Limits premieres on PBS. 1997: ACL's twenty-second broadcast season kicks off on PBS.
