Lott Carey and William Carey were not related. Lott Carey (1780-1849) was an American Baptist missionary and one of the first black missionaries from the United States, known for his work in Africa. William Carey (1761-1834), on the other hand, was a British Christian missionary and a key figure in the modern missionary movement, known for his work in India. Their contributions to missionary work were significant, but they belonged to different backgrounds and contexts.
Lott Carey was the first black American missionary to Africa and helped founded the African country Liberia. Carey was born into slavery, but was later freed and became a minister and a doctor.
