Most of those involved with lulzsec and Anonymous are people with delusions that they are superior to the rest of the ignorant masses. This hubris is sadly common to the malicious hacker subculture (as opposed to the original meaning of the term hacker - "An enthusiastic and skillful computer programmer or user"). From experience we have learned that most malicious hackers, when they gain a little skill, as they suppose, immediately begin to abuse others to advance their own sense of worth and their own self-righteous agendas. Because they believe they are far superior to those they identify as their opponents (aka victims) they fail to realize that there are a great many responsible computer professionals with skills superior to their own and assume they will never be caught. Many of them suffer from delusions that they know far more about computer security than they really do. Attacking computers only requires skill in the techniques you use. Protecting computers from attackers means you have to be skilled and knowledgeable about MANY attacks. Most professionals are well aware of full disk encryption and are skilled in its use. Attackers don't need to be. By analogy, a vandal just has to know where to buy a sledge hammer to destroy a car. An engineer requires years of training and great skill to build a car that will withstand a crash impact while protecting the passengers. My guess is that the lulzsec and Anonymous vandals either were ignorant of full disk encryption or so arrogant that they thought they were so smart that they could never be caught.
