To say "good afternoon" in Ilonggo, you can use the phrase "Maayong hapon."
"Ilongo" refers to the people who speak the Hiligaynon language, primarily in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines. The Hiligaynon language is often referred to as "Ilonggo." It is one of the major languages in the Philippines and is spoken by a significant portion of the population.

The composer is Dr. Francisco Santiago....famous composer in the Philippines of Kundiman. This is one of my favorite songs in Tagalog, and I have been trying to locate a version sung by the "Queen of Kundiman", Sylvia La Torre. I am not Filipino and have never visited the Philippines, but learned Ilongo and some Tagalog because of dear friends born and raised in Cebu and Iloilo. I very much wish I had not put off a trip to visit, especially the Panay Islands, but now my health will not allow. I absolutely love classical music first, second is any Tagalog or Ilongo music. Maligayang bati, at masaganang buhay! crhugs
marami tayong ibat ibang wika. ilan sa halimbawa nito ay:bikol, tagalog, bisaya, ilongo, waray, at marami pang iba
Oh, dude, you're really asking me that? Monay is a type of bread in the Philippines, while putay is a derogatory slang term for a woman's private parts. So, like, one is a tasty snack you can enjoy with butter, and the other is definitely not something you want to talk about at the dinner table.
In Ilonggo, basil is commonly referred to as "basiliko." It is an aromatic herb widely used in Filipino cuisine, particularly in dishes like sinigang and various salads. Basiliko is known for its distinct flavor and is often associated with fresh and fragrant cooking. It can be grown easily in home gardens and is appreciated for both its culinary and medicinal properties.
Ilonggo proverbs, or "salawikain," reflect the wisdom and values of the Hiligaynon-speaking people in the Philippines. For example, "Ang hindi marunong lumingon sa pinanggalingan ay hindi makararating sa paroroonan," which means "He who does not know how to look back at where he came from will never get to his destination," emphasizes the importance of remembering one's roots. Another proverb, "Bisan ano pa ang mangyari, ang pamilya ang una," translates to "No matter what happens, family comes first," highlighting the value of family ties. These proverbs serve as cultural touchstones that convey moral lessons and life guidance.
