May Martin was Nina Boucicault's understudy in the first London run (1904-05) of Peter Pan. Nina missed her first performance on January 29, 1905. By the end of the run Martin replaced Nina but on closing night, April 1, 1905, Nina Boucicault performed the role for the last time, even giving a curtain speech where she announced that Peter Pan would return for the 1905-06 Christmas season. Ironically, she was not included in the cast that was primarily the same. This information is from the new book, Peter Pan on Stage and Screen 1904-2010, by Bruce K. Hanson.
