Three main groups that claim Palestine are the Palestinian people, who seek statehood and self-determination; Israel, which asserts historical and religious connections to the land; and various Arab nations, particularly those in the Middle East, that support the Palestinian cause and advocate for Palestinian rights. Each group has different historical narratives and political agendas that influence their claims. The ongoing conflict is deeply rooted in issues of territory, identity, and governance.
The Palestinian group responsible for the attack during the 1972 Olympics in Munich, West Germany, was Black September. This militant organization was a faction of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and conducted the attack to highlight the Palestinian struggle. The incident resulted in the deaths of 11 Israeli athletes and coaches, significantly impacting international perceptions of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
There are many more than four, but the four most prominent are: Hamas, Fatah, Islamic Jihad, and al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade. While Hezbollah is popular, it is a Lebanese and Syrian group more than a Palestinian group.
