Royal Society for the Protection of Birds
In 1891 a group of ladies from Didsbury and ladies attending Mrs Phillips' Fur and Feather meetings at her house in Croydon amalgamated to become the Society for the Protection of Birds.
June 1891: Duchess of Portland accepts the office of President and remains so until her death in 1954.
Destruction of Ornamental Plumaged Birds like the great crested Grebe was the main goal of this group. In 1904 it gained Royal charter.
