The IM 99A and IM 99B were umanned interceptors assigned to Air Defense Command and ultimately, NORAD. It was flown by remote control from the air defense region command blockhouse located around the country. If launched it was on a one way trip as it would be directed to a bomber formation and then exploded. It was ramjet powered and could approach Mach 4. A very effective air defense system against manned bomber attack.
