ANS 2 - Silver Springs Airport was created in 1989 by ex bomber pilot Hale Bennet and his wife Kay. They had found the derelict runway of the wartime training airfield Churchill Flight Strip. It had been an emergency landing strip for military aircraft on training flights. It was closed after World War II, and lay dormant for over 40 years.
