The Myth of Prometheus - Piero di Cosimo - was created in 1515.
Prometheus was the protagonist in the Greek myth about the origin of man's use and control of fire. Therefore, Prometheus symbolizes any concept related to this.
According to myth the humans were created by the God Prometheus out of mud and water
In Greek mythology Zeus withheld fire from mankind, but Prometheus stole it. In some stories Prometheus created man from mud. Doctor Frankenstein tried to create human life in a dead body. The parallel should be obvious.
The Prometheus myth would likely be classified under the Dewey Decimal system as 292.213, which covers mythology of individual gods and goddesses in Greek mythology.
Not in any myth, no.
From what little I know of the Rockafellers and the large amount I know of Prometheus, I'm sure an answer can be gleaned from this: Prometheus brought fire to uncivilized man, making them civilized. In one myth tradition, man was actually created by Prometheus. In another, man was made in the image of Prometheus. It can be said that although Prometheus was a Titan, the gods above the Olympians, he was the closest link between gods and men. That's full of symbolism right there.
He was Prometheus' brother, Epimetheus.
Prometheus helped humans (he gave them the fire of the Gods). This made Zeus cross and the then punished Prometheus for doing this in a terrible way.

Well in a nut shell, Prometheus created man. We love what we create because it is like our child. Prometheus knew man would never go far without technology, so like many fathers, he sacrificed himself and paid the price.
A Greek god (I forget his name) created man from clay. Many years later, prometheus stole hephaestus' fire and gave it to man.
