United States Power Squadrons was created in 1914.
At the beginning of the US Civil War, the US Navy created two blockading squadrons to hamper Rebel ports. One squadron was assigned for the Atlantic East coast and other one to cover the Southern Gulf coast. When the Blockade Board was formed, it divided the two squadrons into four squadrons. The Board believed this reconstruction of naval responsibilities would serve to better serve the Union's blockading policy.
5 squadrons
German flying squadrons were known as the Luftwaffe.
The US victory at Midway was significant because it was the first ever major naval battle which Japan lost. That meant a lot. It also meant the loss of 4 veteran aircraft carriers. Japan's aircraft squadrons were permanently allocated to their carriers in which they had trained and fought for almost 5 years. The US Navy, on the other hand, regularly moved squadrons from one carrier to another and even moved pilots from fighter to bomber squadrons and back again. Japan did not have the capacity or the time to train new squadrons, build new carriers and combine them into a fighting force.

The Eagle Squadrons of WWII were RAF Squadron 71, 121 and 133 piloted by American pilots under British command in the European Theatre. The Pacific Theatre had El Escuadron 201 called Aquilas Azteca or the Aztec Eagles and they were from the FAEM or Mexican Expeditionary Air Force. There were also individual US officers that saw service with RAF and RCAF squadrons in Europe. All the other British RAF squadrons were NOTEagle Squadrons. Too many to list.
