There is a 4th Avenue in Manhattan. It is a very short avenue, however: only 6 blocks long. It runs from Astor Place/Cooper Square (East 8th Street) to Union Square (East 14th Street). Fourth Avenue is actually one of the oldest avenues in Manhattan. It even predates the grid pattern that the rest of the city is laid out on. It is a remnant of the old Bowery Road, a colonial path that was first laid out by the Native Americans. Fourth Avenue actually follows the same path as Park Avenue and the Bowery. In fact, at one time, 4th Avenue stretched all the way Uptown to the Harlem River. However, it was renamed Park Avenue, gradually, section by section, until 4th Avenue finally became only 6 blocks long. For more information about 4th Avenue, see the Related Link below.

Take the Uptown 7 train (the purple line) to the end of the line, Flushing-Main Street (at the intersection of Main Street and Roosevelt Avenue).Walk 4 blocks north on Main Street to Northern Boulevard. The first street you should reach is 39th Avenue. If you walk 1 block and find yourself at 40th Road, then you've gone south, not north.Turn right at Northern Boulevard, and walk 4 blocks east on Northern Boulevard to Union Street. Flushing High School (at 35-01 Union Street) is on Union Street between Northern Boulevard and 35th Avenue.
The 14th Street-Union Square Station is just a few blocks from your destination. Take the 4-5-6 (the dark green line) or the N-R-Q-W (the yellow line) or the L train (color code grey) to 14th Street-Union Square. You will exit the subway on 14th Street, between Park Avenue South and 3rd Avenue. Your destination is just two blocks north, on 16th Street between Park Avenue South and 3rd Avenue. Note that, from 14th Street to 23rd Street only, a narrow avenue called "Irving Plaza" runs between Park Avenue South and 3rd Avenue. So, from 14th to 23rd, it goes Park Avenue South ---> Irving Plaza ---> 3rd Avenue. Your destination is actually between Park Avenue South and Irving Plaza, on 16th.
