How do you disable WDTV live firmware update via internet?
With the recent (12-03-09) issues about the firmware update rendering WDTV live useless (permanently or temporarily, I do not know), I wanted to find out how to disable the "found new Firmware" notification when turning on the device. I found somewhat of a solution although it will not hide the notification, it will prevent WDTV Live from accessing the internet. If you log in to your router (e.g. 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, etc) there you will find the IP of the WDTV and you should be able to block all outgoing traffic from WDTV live to the internet. Note that this should not disable WDTV's connection to your NAS if you are using one. I was able to block mine from downloading the firmware from the 'net - you can still update firmware via USB stick. I also lost connection to youtube but that's a small price to pay for not bricking my 1 week old WDTV Live. Hope this helps.

Many ways to do this. One way (the way i am doing it) is connecting a WDTV Live to my TV. WDTV Live can connect to my network harddisk (or a simple USB, external harddrive) where i have stored all my moviefiles, music and pictures. Chances are you already have an external harddrive of some sort. So i think WDTV/WDTV Live is a cheap option.
