Zambia was starting to be industrialised in the late 1920's . By then copper mines had sprung up along the copperbelt, eventually resulting in 6 or more deep shaft mines. After WW2 the mines had really started producing a lot of copper. At this time 'open pit' miing also got bigger. The construction of Kariba Dam in the 1950's meant much more power available for industry.
