Why did U2 get terrible?

This is a very subjective question. I know a lot of people who love U2 and still like everything they put out. My parents and several people I know went to their last concert and it was packed filling an entire stadium. Personally, I haven't really liked U2 since their early days and I haven't liked any of their newer albums starting w/ Zooropa. They started inserting too much pop into their rock for my tastes.
