AnswerColt New Police was the name of the cartridges fired in the gun.(32 New Police,38 New Police)Could a 38 Colt Police Positive serial 24827 be stamped Colt New Police on the frame The answer is YES. Police Positive First issue 1907-1927 is marked Police Positive on the Barrel and early Transitional Models will also be double marked with New Police on the Frame. This Double Marked version in 90% condition or better will add 10% to the Price.
You did not provide a serial number. You can call Colt and they will tel you or you can look it up in The Blue Book of Gun Values or at proofhouse.com.
made 1960. price depends on condition. go to: gunsamerica.com and compare your gun with listed Colts for price.............
we are never told what kind of gun anyone used on the show but most likely it was a .38 caliber whch was carried by many police departments at that time.Barney Fife's "Baby" was Colt Police Positive, 4 inch barrel in .38 special caliber. It was actually a Colt Official Police... which was a slightly larger model than the Police Positive.
Made around 1971. Value is decided by condition, markings, and history of the gun.
