A bill designating Glacier National Park was signed by President Taft on May 11, 1910. The United States National Park Service, charged with caring for the park today, was not organized until 1916. The adjacent Waterton Lakes National Park, in Alberta, was founded in 1895. The two parks became the world's first International Peace Park in 1932. Although there are certain parallel management goals between the parks and some cooperation as far as management and visitor education, both parks essentially run as separate entities, including collecting separate fees. Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
