It really depends on the size but a really long time. Building a hippodrome often took about a hundred years due to the fact of less technolody equipment. Again, based on the size of the hippodrome the capacity varied. One of the larges hippodromes built in ancient Greece held 250,000 people. That's alot due to the fact the closest stadium today only hold 150,000 people.
