I'm not positive, but I have one that my father bought me new when I was about 13 years old, which would have been in 1962. Just did a complete series of YouTube videos on restoring it. Check out Magnum30fps channel if you're interested. Those rifles (pre-1968 gun laws) were not required to have serial numbers, so there are no numbers on the one I have. Hope that's helpful.

According to the Gun Bluebook Wards Western Field Model 40 was made bu Marlin. It is a Marlin model 101. However both tube fed and magizine fed guns have been labeled model 40. I have one and it looks just like a marlin model 101.
