President Grover Cleveland declared Labor Day a national holiday in 1894.
The holiday was declared officially by some states beginning in 1912. In 1914 President Woodrow Wilson declared the first national Mother's Day, as a day for American citizens to fly the flag in honor of those mothers whose sons had died in war.

Congress recognized mothers by passing a law on May 8, 1914 designating the second Sunday in May as Mothers Day and a holiday. Woodrow Wilson was the President that proclaimed this day as an annual holiday.
