There is no time in which homosexuality began in any country - homosexuals have always existed but have only recently sought open and honest lives with the rest of society.

South Africa has had a complex history - within and outside of the GLBT movement - but it was 1994 that sex between men was decriminalized (with sex between women having never been officially criminalized).
