Stir up Sunday is the last Sunday before Advent. In 2007, the first Sunday of Advent is December 2nd. Therefore, Stir-up Sunday is November 25th.
Apparently it is the Sunday before the first Sunday of Advent which this year is Nov 29th which makes stir-up Sunday Nov 22nd
Stir-up Sunday used to be the 25th week after Trinity Sunday and hence was a moveable date tagged to Easter. The Church preferred this date be linked to Advent, and it is now set as the Sunday before Advent (as Advent is four Sundays before Christmas, it follows that Stir-up Sunday is the fifth Sunday before Christmas)Thus, Stir-up Sunday for 2008 is 23rd November. However, an awful lot of folk out there are using 30th November as the date of Stir-up Sunday.

This is the Sundy before Advent Sunday, and is traditionally the day on which, in the UK, Christmas puddings are made (for those in the USA - Christmas pudding is a rich fruit cake full of nuts, fruit and so on, eaten with cream or brandy butter on Christmas Day ). The 'stir up' refers to stirring the puddings (making a wish too) before cooking so that after cooking they have enough time to mature before Christmas day. The origin of 'stir up' actually comes from the Collect (a special prayer) for that particular Sunday in the Church of England Book of Common Prayer- the Sunday before Advent which says:- "Stir up we beseech thee, O Lord, the wills of thy faithful people, That they, plenteously beinging forth the fruit of good works, May of thee be plenteously rewarded. Through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen."
