The eventual outcome was a pyrric victory for the British who suffered their greatest losses of the Revolutionary War. The Americans had to abandon their positions after they ran out of ammunition but the British "victory" did nothing to lift the siege, which continued until St. Patrick's Day in 1776, when the British withdrew from Boston.
