They're very similar to each other. As the American constituition was well elaborated, based in new ideas from the time (such as the iluminists one's), Brazil, in it's last constituition (made just after the dictatorial military period) got as an example to "build" they're own Constitution, the American constituition.

It was the Articles of Confederation, they were written in 1777 and they were replaced by the United States Constitution in 1787.
