The Treaty of Versailles had a major influence on the causes of the second world war. The treaty was signed on June 28th 1919 after months of argument and negotiation between the "Big 3", England, France and the USA.

Germany was not happy with the terms of the treaty, they had been excluded from the negotiations and the treaty imposed great restrictions on them, they lost territory and were dealt punitive financial burdens.

It is widely accepted that the treaty doomed Germany to financial ruin, which in turn drove the German nation to take radical action and eventually move to reclaim territory they had considered to be part of Germany.

The Nazi regime fed from the anger and dis-satisfaction created by the treaty.
