There are two types of automatic record players. One automatically puts the tone arm onto the edge of the record and begins playing then shuts off the player and picks up the tone arm after the side is finished playing. The other simply shuts off the player after the side has been played. I have a 1921 Sonora Marlborough console player that has the latter.
There are also automatic record changers. These perform the functions of the above plus having a special spindle will hold up to 4 discs and drop them automatically for continuous play.
Automatic record changers began appearing during the late 1930s on consoles. on portables they began appearing in the early 1960s as solid state circuitry made it possible for the mechanism to fit in a smaller cabinet. I had a GE portable with an automatic record changer that was manufactured in 1969. This was solid state with an all plastic case (cream colored)) with a plastic tone arm. It played 4 speeds, (16,33 1/3, 45 and 78).
Most GE players seem to date from about 1957 to 1984. In the last 3 years turntables and record players seem to be making a comeback but I have not seen any by GE as yet. A great book is THE FABULOUS PHONOGRAPH 1877-1977 by Roland Gelatt. It is my audio bible.
it was made in 1925! Recordings of 78 rpm records, the electrical recording systems introduced around 1925 allowing a major rise in sound quality.
The phonograph, an early record player, was invented in 1877 by Thomas Edison. It used a handle which would turn the cylinder. The cylinder had grooves on, and when a needle (stylus) went over the grooves, it vibrated, producing a sound. However, the electric record player, although invented in 1925, it became popular in the 1950s, when more people had electricity.

No. The record player was not invented until 1877. George Washington lived from 1731 to 1799.
in fall of 1877 by Thomas A. Eddison
He invented the phonograph record and record player.
The last record player has not been built yet; they are still being made. When the last one is made, it will not have been invented, since the invention occurred when the first one was made.
