The official opening of Seven Mile Bridge was on July 4, 1938.
It was built in 1909-1912.
That was in Sri Lanka, nearby the small village Kitulgala. The bridge being built for the film was across the Kelani River. I think the precise bridge spot was very close nearby the Kitulgala Rest House, about 1.4 mile west-northwest of Kitulgala village center
