The tornado in the opening scene of Twister is stated to have have been an F5 and the titles said it was in June 1969. It does not appear to have been in Wakita and was probably closer to Hennessy. It was an entirely fictional event. No F5 tornadoes occurred in 1969.

The scene itself is anachronistic. Jo's father refers to the tornado as an F5 even though the Fujita scale was not created until 1971. It could not have been an EF5 as the Enhanced Fujita scale only applies to tornadoes that occurred in 2007 or later.

There are 7 tornadoes in the movie. In order they are: 1. The F5 of the opening scene. 2. The tornado of the first chase, which destroys Jo's truck. 3/4. The F2/F3 that splits into two tornadoes and briefly envelopes Bill's truck. 5. The F3 that is show throwing debris and destroys the second Dorothy probe. 6. In the movie twister where was each Storm located including the first F5 tornado in the beginning of the movie with young Jo before they started chasing storms?

In most cases specific locations are not mentioned, but some information can be gleaned. In the opening scene, Jo's father appears to become concerned when the TV weatherman mentions northeastern Kingfisher County. If this is their location it would likely put them somewhere east of Hennessey. Oklahoma County, which includes Oklahoma City, is also mentioned, but these two areas are not adjacent so it was likely a separate storm. At the start of the first chase the navigator mentions Roger's Creek, which might put part of the chase in southeastern Dewey County, about 65 miles northwest of Oklahoma City. In going toward the second tornado of the chase, Jo puts their goal "north east of 81." This likely refers to US Route 81, which runs north-south through the state from Kansas to Texas. After that tornado it is mentioned that the group is close to Wakita, which is relatively close to Route 81 in Grant County in Northern Oklahoma. It is unclear where the F3 that destroys the second Dorothy probe is. Location names are difficult to hear clearly. The town Dusty mentions does not appear to exist. The TV broadcast seems to mention Washita County. The penultimate F4 tornado, of course, strikes the town of Wakita in Grant County. The final F5 is mentioned as starting to form 25 miles south of Wakita, which would put its start near Hillsdale in Garfield County, but does not specify where it is in the final scenes. However, the tornadoes in the movie seem to move northeast as its typical of tornadoes in the U.S.

What percent of a chance is there that a tornado with strike your town twice?

Depends on what town you're talking about. You first have to determine the chance of your town getting hit ONCE by a tornado. Oklahoma City has a much higher risk of getting hit by a tornado than Los Angeles, CA...So therefore the risk of Oklahoma City getting struck by 2 tornadoes would be much higher than Los Angeles.

When did they invent the tornado watcher?

There is no particular year. The first advisory for tornadoes, which today would be called a tornado watch, was issued on March 25, 1948 in central Oklahoma. It was not called a tornado watch then as it was an impromptu alert given by an Air Force meteorologist rather than official watch.

Where was the March 20th 1948 tornado?

There were two significant tornadoes on March 20, 1948, both in the Oklahoma City area. The first, an F3, caused major damage to Tinker Air Force base. This tornado prompted the first ever tornado warning. The second tornado, an F2, touched down on the air base and damaged several buildings there before moving to other parts of the metro area.

What was the worst tornado to ever hit in Kansas?

The worst tornado in Kansas history was the Udall tornado of May 25, 1955. This F5 tornado first touched down in Oklahoma and moved northward into Kansas, striking the small town of Udall, where 75 people were killed. Five more people were killed on a farm. The southern part of Udall was completely swept away. This was the deadliest tornado in Kansas history and the 25th deadliest in U.S. history. It was the last tornado in the U.S. to kill more than 60 people until 2011.

Who named the tornado?

Tornadoes are not named by individuals. Instead, they are typically referred to by the location or time in which they occur. For example, a tornado in the town of Moore, Oklahoma, might be called the Moore tornado.
