The carousel was first developed in Europe. In America, Coney Island's first carousel was built by the Danish carver, Charles I.D Looff, in 1876. Several earlier carousels had been constructed by Charles Dare and Gustav Dentzel.
Some interesting facts about Rhode Island are that it was the last of the thirteen colonies to become a state. Rhode Island was the first place in the United States to have a circus, and it is the smallest state by size.
