It was built in the 7th century bc but was connected by Qin Shihuang in the 4th century bc and has been rebuilt. The major rebuilding happened in the Ming Dynasty(1127-1644) which is much of what we see today.
The wall was finished in 206 BCE.
When it was completed, the Great Wall of China was about 5,000km long. The Chinese called it "Wan-Li Qang-Qeng" which means 10,000-Li Long Wall (10,000 Li = about 5,000km).
