An earthquake occurred off the west coast of Ireland today (6th June 2012). It was a magnitude 4 earthquake. Lots of very small earthquakes occur around Ireland, but it is not in a dangerous zone.

Small earthquakes are occasionally felt in Ireland. They are never as strong as ones that many countries get and so they pose no major danger. Some occur just off the Irish coast, under the Irish Sea. England gets earthquakes too, and even these can sometimes be felt in Ireland.

Because Ireland isn't close enough to a major faultline. Very small earthquakes can be felt in Ireland sometimes, but they do not cause damage. People do not even notice them sometimes. They are normally centred under the Irish Sea, but there is no danger of tidal waves.
