This is the first time I have seen a claim that the printing press was invented in China, and I think it is probably the result of a misunderstanding. Woodblock printing was done in China at that time, but the only records I have seen indicate the printing was done by pressing the paper onto the block by hand, probably with a small, smooth tool to apply pressure. Movable type was certainly invented in China, and I believe this happened more than once, but the technology of type casting was very simple compare to what was later done in Europe.

There are other claimants to the invention of the printing press, and there are those who say there is evidence that the press may have been invented as early as the 13th century. Woodblock printing was done in Europe before Gutenberg. According to the article on woodblock printing at the link below, it was common to use woodblocks to print on cloth in Europe by the year 1300. The method used to print on cloth could not have been the hand printing used earlier in China, because cloth is both less stiff and thicker than paper, but we have no record of what press might have been used.

The history of the invention of printing is told differently in different countries, and while the historians of the United States, the United Kingdom, and German are quite happy to accept Gutenberg as the inventor, those of other countries are not quite so ready to do so. The claim I have seen so far that I think is most convincing comes from the Netherlands, where it is claimed Laurens Janzoon Coster invented movable type and used it in a printing press some time before 1426. The article on Coster at the link below says the Dutch have given up on this claim, but I doubt that comes even close to being true, and there are those who vehemently assert that Gutenberg worked for Coster and stole the invention. I have also seen what I thought were less convincing claims from France and Italy, but less convincing does not mean wrong.

The best I can do to answer questions about the invention of the printing press is to say that I don't know when it happened or where - but it is quite clear to me that no one else does either. I also do not know what Gutenberg may have invented - it has been suggested by various people that he invented the press, movable type, the mold to make movable type, or even the ink. But certainly, Gutenberg, in Mainz, is the one person most often referred by his contemporaries to as the inventor of printing.
