The first Minnesota state flag, created by Pauline Fjelde, was adopted in 1893. It was redesigned in 1957 to show a more accurate representation of the flowers on the state seal. That same year (1957) the flag was established as the official state flag in Chapter 1 of the Minnesota State Statutes, Section 1.141. The design was tweaked again in 1983 to reduce the complexity of the state seal.
