Does the breading of the staff have anything to do with a pit bull?

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier was first bred in Staffordshire, England, using Bulldog's (not today's ones) and local Terrier's. The American Pit Bull Terrier and American Staffordshire Terrier were bred using English Staffordshire's by increasing their size and weight. Therefore, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier was the main breed used in the development of the Pit Bull - not the other way around.

Do staffies come from staffordshire originally?

Yes, Staffordshire Bull Terriers come from the county, Staffordshire, in central England. The Bull Terrier was bred from the SBT and they also come from England, but not necessarily from that county. Yes, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier was originally bred to kill rats for pest control and organised ''ratting'' competitions. There are many breeds that were bred for vermin control, including the Jack Russell Terrier, Parson Russell Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier, Norfolk Terrier, Lakeland Terrier, Miniature Schnauzer, Border Terrier, Patterdale Terrier and many more. In fact, pretty much all Terriers were originally bred to kill rats.

What are pittbulls breed for?

First off "Pit Bulls" aren't a breed but a term used to describe three different dog breeds: American Pit Bull Terrier American Staffordshire Terrier Staffordshire Bull Terrier At first they were bred as baiting dogs, they fought big animals like bulls and bear, but that became illegal so people started dog fighting. Even in the dog fighting business they were bred to be human friendly if any dog showed aggression to its handler it wasn't bred. Not all pits were bred for fighting and baiting, some were bred by responsible owners who actually cared for there dogs.

Is a bull terrier bigger than a staffie?

Firstly, the Pit Bull is not actually a breed, but the term is used to refer to breeds such as the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier and sometimes the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Assuming by ''Pit Bull'' you mean the American Pit Bull Terrier or American Staffordshire Terrier, the difference is that the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a few inches shorter, weighs less and was first bred in England. ''Pit Bull'' type dogs are unfortunately illegal in many countries, such as the UK, with the exception of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier; which is still legal.
